In March 2003 Viralg introduced the new anti-piracy service to the first record company client in Finland. The company decided to take a trial and use Viralg service for their domestic music production. Results were better than anyone could imagine. The object was to stop piracy in the most popular P2P site Kazaa (Fast track). The co-operation started with a few local music files and ended up with protecting the whole domestic production of the record company. The results have been stunning. The company became the market leader in domestic music in the past 12 months. Their market position increased from 15% to 25%. Company profitability and sales volume have also increased. At the same time total volume of music sales decreased in Finland. This would not have been possible without successful music releases and local organizational efficiency. The major reason for success is a radical extension of record sales cycles. The average time for popular Finnish records staying on the Finnish TOP 40 charts is 8.7 weeks. All Viralg protected records have reached an average time of 14.5 weeks staying on the TOP 40 charts. Sales cycles have grown in average by 66%. (Statistic in week 36/2004) TOP 40 chart in Finland: http://www.yle.fi/top40/albumit.shtml According to researches done in Finland (September 2004), 50% of the P2P users would not buy music, movies or PC games if they would have been available from P2P network. About 75% of them would not buy other games or operating systems, if they would have been available from a P2P network. If the product is available in P2P network; there will be major losses in sales.(September 2004, International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) Viralg services have had a strategic impact on clients business.
